ELPD to hold press conference on 2 overnight shootings

This is an ongoing story and will be updated as more information becomes known.

The East Lansing Police Department will hold a press conference regarding the two overnight shootings.

At the 3 p.m. press conference, the ELPD will also address the “incidents”, although it is not clear exactly what they are.

Last night, the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety assisted ELPD in responding to the “shootings,” Michigan State University spokeswoman Amber McCann told the State News this morning.

The shootings took place off campus and did not pose a threat to campus, McCann said.

One of the alleged shootings occurred at Linden Street and MAC Avenue.

The first shots were fired around 12:26 a.m. on November 1.

ELPD was searching for a suspect around 1:30 a.m.

ELPD Lt. Chad Stemen said he administered medical treatment to the victims. At this time, there is no confirmation of the number of victims.

The State News spoke to witnesses in the area.

Several witnesses said there were between 3 and 7 shots fired.

A witness said he saw a person lying on the ground following the shooting.

Another witness walking on MAC Avenue said he saw two groups of individuals arguing around a car when an individual got out of the vehicle with a gun.
