Big Tech faces political reckoning in Ohio

A Silicon Valley nightmare could be brewing in Ohio.

Some of the biggest names in tech are pouring money into efforts to keep the former senator. Sherrod Brown outside Washington. But with the populist Democrat holding a narrow lead in the polls just before Election Day, some of Silicon Valley’s most powerful players are weighing the prospect of a humiliating defeat that could embolden politicians from both parties to take on the industry.

Cryptocurrency heavyweights like Coinbase, Ripple and venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz are funding a super PAC operation that has released the colossal sum of $55 million against Brown return offer. And his Republican opponent, Senator. Jon Hustedhas collected checks from prominent tech figures, ranging from Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison to the president of Microsoft Brad Smith.

“The biggest factor in politics is money going into a race,” the former representative said. Tim Ryanformer Democratic candidate for Ohio Senate, who now co-leads a pro-crypto group called Blockchain Innovation Project and previously served on a Coinbase advisory board. “All evidence shows this is a high priority for the crypto industry and big tech.”
