Oil prices fall amid new US-Iran talks as Trump says ‘gavel’ still on table

Iranian negotiators walked out of negotiations in Doha, Qatar, on a Sunday as a draft peace proposal began circulating for comment, according to an official briefed on the matter.

It is possible that a follow-up meeting will be organized in the coming days, the official said.

News of progress in talks comes as President Donald Trump stepped up his threats to resume conflict with Tehran during a campaign rally Sunday evening.

“The only reason we’re not done with Iran is because I want to be nice. I want to try to save all these lives if I can. But at some point we’re going to have to give them the hammer,” Trump told a crowd in Iowa.

“It’s going to be over very soon. Very soon,” he predicted.
