‘Frustrated’ Christina Applegate reveals tough new challenge after misdiagnosis of MS

Christina Applegate is struggling not to feel like a “fraud” following her misdiagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

When “MeSsy” podcast guest Jack Osbourne admitted to listeners Tuesday that he sometimes feels “a little bit like an imposter” because of the severity of his MS symptoms, the actress joked, “Talk about being an imposter. I don’t even have it anymore.”

The “Dead to Me” alum, notably, announced last month that she did not have MS, five years after making her diagnosis public.

Osbourne, 40, assured Applegate that she was still “qualified,” with podcast co-host Jamie Lynn Sigler calling her an “honorary member.”

Applegate, 54, agreed: “I will never leave this community. I have made so many lifelong friends. I care so much about everyone we represent. I will always be a part of it in one way or another.”

Earlier in the episode, the Emmy winner noted that she had a hard time “shaking that identity” because it had been “her identity for so long.”

She explained: “I lived with MS for almost six years. »

The Golden Globe nominee then told her listeners that she has “some serious work” to do regarding her mindset and would like to adopt the positive framework with which Osbourne, who was diagnosed in 2012 at age 26, views her own struggles with MS.

While crediting Sigler with “always lifting her up” when she’s “incredibly depressed,” Applegate said, “I need to pull myself together. »

The “Married… With Children” alum also shared that she was “fucking frustrated” as she was “back to square one” after her misdiagnosis and “doing some tests, going one by one (with) the sister diseases to MS.”

She explained that rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and Lyme disease can “kind of mimic MS,” adding, “I’m being tested for these things slowly but surely.” »

In her headline-grabbing health update in October, Applegate made it clear that she was still suffering from debilitating symptoms.

“I haven’t gotten better,” she said. “If anything, my condition has gotten worse. … I still have to use wheelchairs when I go to the doctor. I can’t walk from the car to the room. I’m still here. Nothing magical happened when she said, ‘You don’t have MS.’ Nothing magical happened.

The following week, the Tony nominee described the struggles she “still lives with” — including taking 10 minutes to physically get out of bed.

“I actually timed it today,” Applegate said. “I don’t know what’s going on.”
