Apple announces Fitness+ Gym Strength program with personalized workout plans

Apple wants to help you become stronger. Apple Fitness+ expands to the gym with a new strength training experience. Gym Strength is now available in beta, bringing personalized workout plans, exercise demonstrations, and Apple Watch logging to your lifting routine.

Gym Strength is designed to perform in real-world environments with a variety of equipment

Gym Strength creates progressive four-week plans based on your strength goals, experience, schedule and available equipment. After you complete each week of training, the next week adapts based on the reps and weight you have recorded.

The feature is designed for a range of experience levels, from people trying strength training for the first time to experienced weightlifters looking to progress. It also aims to help anyone wanting to build a more consistent routine.

When you make a plan, you choose your workout days and which areas of the body you want to focus on. You can select five exercises per workout, which Apple says will last about 20 to 30 minutes, or seven exercises for about 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your pace.

Each workout recommends exercises, reps, sets, and weight to lift.

You progress through the workout at your own pace, with short video demonstrations from Apple Fitness+ trainers available for each exercise. The demonstrations can be expanded to show the movement from three different angles.

Apple says Gym Strength includes more than 350 exercises on more than 30 types of strength equipment, including dumbbells, kettlebells, suspension trainers, cable machines and barbells. Dumbbells are the minimum equipment required.

The plans take into account the equipment you have, so the experience can work in a commercial gym or a home gym.

If a machine is busy or you’re training somewhere with different equipment, you can swap the equipment or choose an alternative exercise with similar movement and body focus. You can also add sets or skip exercises.

Gym Strength requires an iPhone running iOS 27.3 or an iPad running iPadOS 27.3. An Apple Watch running watchOS 27.3 optionally lets you view exercises and record repetitions and weight from your wrist, while tracking heart rate and calories burned.

Gym Strength also introduces Training Note, an optional feature powered by Apple Intelligence that previews workouts, explains progression, and highlights important steps. The training note requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with the device set to English.

Gym Strength is included in the existing Fitness+ subscription. It joins a library of trainer-led workouts covering 12 workout types, including strength, HIIT, yoga, Pilates, core, cycling, rowing, dance, kickboxing, treadmill walking and running, and mindful cooldown.
