Christina Applegate provides update after multiple sclerosis misdiagnoses

The actress said she was back to “square one” and undergoing medical tests.

Christina Applegate has shared an update following the news that she had been misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis, five years after doctors told her she had the autoimmune disease.

Speaking of the last episode of Messyher MS-themed podcast that she hosts with Jamie Lynn Sigler, Applegate said doctors are re-evaluating the root of her symptoms.

“We’re going to square one, just doing some tests and looking at MS’s sister diseases one by one,” Applegate told guest Jack Osbourne, who has MS. “You have RA (rheumatoid arthritis), lupus, Lyme disease and all these things that can mimic MS,” Applegate said of the medical tests she undergoes. “So now I’m being tested for all of this, slowly but surely.”

The actress joked, “I’m talking about being a fraud. I don’t even have it anymore. Hell,” before emphasizing her dedication to the MS community: “I will never leave this community. We’ve made so many lifelong friends and I care so much about everyone we represent and I represent. I will always be a part of it in one way or another.”

Announcing the news last month, Applegate said she was in a “state of shock” over the misdiagnoses, which she called “bullshit” because she still has symptoms but doctors no longer have an explanation. “It’s a strange feeling because I’ve become this: you (Sigler) and I, the poster children of MS,” she said. “And everything I did. I had a reason. I had a fucking reason why my day sucked every day. And now I don’t have a reason and it’s very annoying and very confusing to me.”

A week later, she said she was still a “warrior” for people with multiple sclerosis. “I will always speak on your behalf forever and ever. I always feel like a part of this community. No matter what, I love you.”
