The Indianapolis Colts have already traded Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, while speculation continues surrounding Jonathan Taylor and Josh Downs.
However, they could make a “curve” trade before the NFL’s November 10 deadline.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested on the Podcast Adam Schefter this quarterback Daniel Jones could be a surprise trade candidate. He went so far as to cite the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings as potential landing spots.
“I know we’re focused on Taylor and Downs, as we should be, and I’m not telling you they’re trading Daniel,” Schefter said (10:40). “I’m just telling you, sometimes it’s the curve you don’t see.”
Jones has just one season left on his contract after the 2026 campaign and he looks like anything but the Colts’ long-term franchise quarterback this season. He has just five touchdown passes to nine interceptions, and the Colts are 2-6 in his starts.
While it’s fair to assume it may take him some time to return to form after tearing his Achilles tendon last season, he will also turn 30 before the 2027 season and is unsigned for the foreseeable future.
Indianapolis is playing a big part in what is turning into a losing season, and it could get more recruiting capital in return in an effort to speed up the rebuilding process it envisions if it decides to move on from Jones.
The Ravens make logical sense, as they are a presumptive contender in the AFC with Derrick Henry, Zay Jones and a talented defense. However, Lamar Jackson (thumb) and Tyler Huntley (turf toe) are both sidelined. They were forced to turn to emergency quarterback Joe Fagnano in Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Baltimore desperately needs a quarterback at this point in an effort to turn things around before it’s too late in the season, and the Colts could get a nice return for Jones.
As for the Vikings, they are 6-1 largely despite Kyler Murray. He’s 26th in the league in QBR, according to Pro Football Reference, and lowers the ceiling on a roster that could otherwise be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
While Jones may not be a massive upgrade, he was a backup for the team in 2024 and has some familiarity in place.
