With the announcement announced later this week, the 49ers’ options will be: reinstate him and play him under his current contract; release it; or reinstate him and try to find a business partner before the November 10 deadline.
San Francisco has consistently stated that Aiyuk will no longer be with the club, a position reiterated by Kyle Shanahan in September. Despite the WR’s injuries, the Niners never hesitated on this posture. However, the team was also in no rush to release the wide until they had a reason to do so.
Now it appears that San Francisco is forced to act.
In 69 games with the Niners, Aiyuk, 28, generated 4,305 yards on 294 catches with 25 first downs. The former first-round pick hasn’t played since October 20, 2024.
