DeSantis calls midterm bloodbath an ‘extinction-level event for Republicans’

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor. Ron DeSantis eviscerated the state of Republican politics Wednesday after the party’s devastating midterm losses, blaming everything from the Epstein files, to members of Congress trading stocks and warning that GOP politics.

The Republican governor argued that Democratic victories in his state and beyond had more to do with voters rejecting Republicans in Washington than support for liberal policies. And even though the election was “close to an extinction-level event for Republicans,” DeSantis took a proud victory lap over how the GOP performed in his state, where it swept Cabinet elections and avoided defeats like those suffered in conservative strongholds like Iowa, Kansas and Texas.

“To call it a wave, I don’t think that would be entirely accurate,” DeSantis said at a news conference in Tallahassee. “It’s the political equivalent of a meteor strike that has circled the United States, the blue states, the red states, everything in between. And the only state that has been able to hold the line and resist it is right here in the free state of Florida.”

DeSantiswho is term-limited and scheduled to leave office in January, criticized the way Republicans have attacked this election cycle by focusing heavily on transgender issues instead of other policies, like responding to the burgeoning growth of artificial intelligence. He said Democrats have overwhelmed the Republican Party on regulating AI and big tech, winning over rural voters by pushing to slow the development of data centers on their land.
