Dafne Keen revealed on the “Inside of You” podcast that she was offered cocaine at Hollywood parties when she was a young teenager (via Entertainment Weekly). Now 21, Keen made her break into the industry playing young mutant Laura/X-23 alongside Hugh Jackman in 2017’s “Logan.” She filmed the film when she was 11 and it hit theaters a few months after her 12th birthday.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been drunk enough to have a hangover. I’m such a control freak with this,” Keen told podcast host Michael Rosenbaum. “Because I also think as a child actor, I witnessed so much of that as a kid that I just had no interest…I was being offered coke at wrap parties. Like, tiny. Like 11, 12, 13 years old. So I saw what it was, so I was like, ‘I’m not really interested in that’…I was saying no, thankfully.”
Keen said she continues to avoid drugs and alcohol even as an adult, explaining, “I don’t really need it. I go out and stay out until 6 p.m., but sober. Just for the vibe, just because I like music, I like dancing and I like people…I used to lie when I was a teenager so I wouldn’t have peer pressure. I was like, ‘No, I’m fine. I don’t want to drink. I already took something.” Sober as hell. Like, the best good two shoes ever.
Keen followed his breakout role in “Logan” by booking the lead role in HBO and BBC One’s “His Dark Materials” television adaptation, which ran for three seasons. Her television work continued with a role in the “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte,” and she then played Artemis in the third season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympics.” On the film side, Keen reprized X-23 in “Deadpool and Wolverine.”
“(Hugh Jackman) gave me a lot of really positive reinforcement and a lot of really good advice. And he was always so lovely,” Keen recalled of his co-star. “He’s the best number one anyone could ask for. And he’s the best father on screen. He really felt like a kind of parental figure… He made sure that no one was taking advantage of my hours, that I was having fun on set, that I wasn’t aware of any tensions that might have been going on behind the scenes. He was incredibly protective and incredible.”
