AMC Theaters Sets All-Time Record for Quarterly Revenue

The breakout success of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and “The Odyssey” fueled a record quarter for AMC Theaters. Total revenue for the three months ended September 30 reached $1.71 billion, up 31.6% from $1.30 billion a year earlier.

This is the biggest revenue ever for the world’s largest cinema chain, eclipsing the previous record of $1.60 billion set in the second quarter of 2026, led by “Project Hail Mary and “Michael.” Before this year’s rebound, AMC’s quarterly revenue record was pro-COVID, set in the second quarter of 2019, when “Avengers: Endgame” came out and shattered all box office expectations.

AMC also turned a profit: The company reported net income of $109.3 million, compared to a net loss of $298.2 million in the third quarter of 2025. It reported earnings per share of 12 cents for the most recent quarter, after reporting a loss of 58 cents in the year-ago quarter.

“In recent years, as other key players in our industry have collapsed, we at AMC have repeatedly talked about recovery instead. Today, we can finally say that AMC has recovered,” AMC CEO Adam Aron said in a statement. “To our studio partners, our lenders, our business partners, our employees and our millions of passionate shareholders, thank you for standing with us as we navigate a long and sometimes brutal road. Mere survival was never the goal. Our goal ultimately was to thrive, and that is exactly and precisely where our focus now lies. We are very excited about the tremendous opportunities ahead.”

Aron attributed the better-than-expected quarter to several factors, including the growing popularity of large premium formats, the A-List subscription service and the resurgence of the box office. This summer was the best since COVID, as “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” became the third highest-grossing film in history with $2.5 billion and Nolan’s “The Odyssey” grossed an incredible $1.8 billion. Overall domestic movie theater revenues have already eclipsed $8 billion, a milestone the industry only crossed last year in December. With potential heavyweights like “Avengers: Doomsday,” “Dune: Part III” and “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” not yet on the docket, but this year will be by far the biggest at the box office since the post-pandemic period.

Now, when people go to the movies, they are more likely to indulge in popcorn and soda. AMC’s food and beverage revenues reached $589.5 million for the three-month period, up 30% from $451.8 million a year earlier. At the same time, ticket revenue reached $954.5 million, an increase of 33% from the previous year’s $715.1 million.

“Sometimes the best way to sum up performance is short but sweet,” Aron wrote in a five-paragraph statement. “We expect the remaining slate of films to propel the domestic and global box office to its highest annual level in seven years. We couldn’t be more excited about AMC’s prospects as this year comes to a triumphant close.”
