San Jose Sharks forward Kiefer Sherwood said his team was “disrespected” by the Los Angeles Kings during the Sharks’ 7-2 loss Wednesday night.
Sherwood, who finished the night with two shots on goal and 17:39 of ice time,
“They were up 6-2 and put their best power play to the test, (Kings forward Artemi) Panarin blocking shots and celebrating on his bench. It’s disrespectful. Until we do something, things won’t change unless we do something about it.”
Sherwood, who now has two goals and eight points in 17 games this season, also said he and his teammates just had a players-only meeting after the game.
“We are going to improve here and we have a lot to learn,” he said. “Look, it’s better to go through the growing pains now than later, right? We’re going to stay together and get through them together, and we’re going to improve our mindset and our work ethic for the next game, and we’re going to get serious.”
“This one obviously sucks, but no one is feeling sorry for themselves,” Sherwood added. “Until we act, things will not change.”
The Sharks are now 7-9-1 with 15 points and losses in five of their last six games and seven of their last 10.
Captain Macklin Celebrini, now in his third NHL season, leads the team in all offensive categories with six goals and 11 assists for 17 points. Four players are tied for second with 10 points: Will Smith, Michael Misa, Ivar Stenberg and Jacob Trouba.
Goaltender Yaroslav Askarov is 4-7-0 with a .888 save percentage (SV%) and a 3.29 goals-against average (GAA) in 11 games played.
