While the next Grand Theft Auto VI won’t be available on PC this month, some gamers are making ridiculous preparations to use their PC graphics cards to bring Nvidia’s DLSS 5 technology to the console exclusive.
On an explicitly unmoderated site GTAVI subreddit, user RevolutionaryBus8208 shows off a proposed setup, which runs a PlayStation 5 through a 4K capture card to a PC. From there, the video signal passes through Veyra, an open source tool that can apply DLSS 5’s AI-powered “neural rendering” to video content. The result, which also uses DLSS frame generation to boost the 30fps source to 90fps output, is then sent back to a 4K TV, theoretically adding some of the benefits of a robust PC graphics card to a console-exclusive game.
To demonstrate the potential of this configuration, RevolutionaryBus8208 used Veyra to improve the Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Look trailer released in August. The resulting DLSS version is a little better in places, with sharper background elements, more subtle shadows, and more believable light diffusion on some surfaces. But it also looks a bit washed out compared to the deeper blacks of the original video and arguably suffers from an unusually soft “soap opera effect” in some scenes.
THE GTAVI The Extended Look trailer with DLSS 5 is noticeably different.
There is nothing free
Although the enhanced version occasionally causes graphical artifacts and issues with the image generation process, it’s still an interesting proof of concept that shows how far DLSS 5 has evolved from some of the early horror show memes that circulated around the internet earlier this year.
