Lakers’ Bronny James, Cameron Carr assigned to G League roster ahead of Coachella Valley opener

The Los Angeles Lakers announced Thursday that guards Bronny James and Cameron Carr have been assigned to the Coachella Valley Lakers, the team’s G League affiliate.

Coachella Valley will open its season Friday in Palm Desert.

James, 22, has played in 74 career games over three seasons with the Lakers, including five this season, averaging 2.5 points and one assist in 7.7 minutes per game.

Carr, 21, was the 24th overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and barely saw the court, appearing in just three games without recording any statistics.

Neither player was likely to see many minutes at the NBA level this season, barring injuries. The Lakers are stacked at guard, with Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves as starters, Collin Sexton and Quentin Grimes as the main reserves behind them and Jaden Hardy available as additional depth.

At the 3, the Lakers primarily used players like Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams. With a fairly set rotation early in the season, finding minutes outside of downtime for James or Carr hasn’t been terribly feasible or necessary.
