This is the view of the former governor of New Jersey. Chris Christie after the vice president and incumbent governor of Florida — both potential rivals in 2028 — offered his own assessment of why Republicans suffered such significant losses in the midterms.
In a telephone interview with POLITICO on Wednesday, Christie said he still plans to run for president in two years. But he said widespread Republican losses — from his increasingly blue home state to the deep red South — “show that we need to go in a completely different direction.”
Other Republicans appeared to recognize this following Tuesday’s election. Vancefor example, broke with the president Donald Trump attributing the results to the war in Iran. DeSantiswho is running for the Republican nomination for president in 2024, criticized his party to focus more on cultural issues than on voters’ everyday concerns.
