Next year’s iPhone Pro redesign will remove an important button, leak suggests

Apple is rumored to be doing a major overhaul of the iPhone Pro models next year, and according to a new leak, this could result in the loss of the action button.

Action button reportedly removed from iPhone Pro next year for 20th anniversary redesign

2027 marks the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, and all signs point to Apple having something special planned. Similar to the iPhone X’s 10th anniversary launch in 2017, Apple could introduce a bold new design for the iPhone next year.

The new iPhone Pro models are rumored to feature curved quad displays that wrap around the edges for a visually bezel-less appearance. The screen size should also increase.

Today, a new post from leaker Instant Digital on Weibo indicates that this new design will also result in a loss.

According to the post, the Action button will be removed from next year’s iPhone Pro models. The devices will, however, retain a camera control button, similar to the iPhone Duo.

The leaker, however, claims that the functionality of the action button will not be completely lost. Instead, it says Camera Control will continue to launch the Camera app with a standard press, but a long press will provide action button-like functionality.

When the iPhone Duo ditched the Action button, some users expressed disappointment at the button’s loss of versatility. Our own Chance Miller, for example, said he’d happily give up camera control to keep the action button.

It appears that Apple plans to integrate the two, a model that will likely also apply to the next-generation iPhone Duo and other future models.
