VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A death investigation is underway after a man survived being hit by a car in Van Nuys Thursday evening, only to be struck and killed by another vehicle.
The first accident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Victory Boulevard. According to Los Angeles police, a blue Volvo struck the 33-year-old pedestrian as he crossed the road between Willis Avenue and Cedros Avenue.
That driver stopped and is cooperating with investigators, according to the LAPD.
As the man lay in the street after the crash, he was struck again, this time by a red sedan, police said. The man became trapped under the second vehicle and was dragged for several blocks before being dislodged right in front of Van Nuys High School. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, police say the driver of the red sedan continued driving north, without stopping or rendering aid.
The victim was not immediately identified, pending notification of next of kin.
The AIR7 video shows the Volvo stopped with a shattered windshield. The video also shows dark skid marks on Cedros Avenue, ending where a tent was set up to cover the man’s body.
Anyone with information about the fatal crash is asked to contact Officer Hansen of the Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8255 or Detective Martinez at (818) 644-8033. After hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247).
