Jimmy Kimmel mocked Donald Trump’s latest proclamation designating the Oval Office as a monument.
Trump, 80, renovated the president’s office with countless gilded trinkets and ornaments. The decor prompted Barack Obama to declare during a midterm speech that the executive mansion now looks “like Saddam Hussein opened a cheesecake factory.”
Apparently in response, Trump held a ceremony Thursday afternoon — two days after Republicans suffered crushing midterm losses — declaring the Oval Office and Cabinet Room of the White House national monuments.
Kimmel, 58, addressed Trump’s statement during his Thursday night monologue, calling the president “Tacky-O” and saying, “Trump also signed his first proclamation since Tuesday’s bloodbath and it aims to turn the Oval Office into a national monument so no future president can take back his bullshit.”
“It’s true. His historic Diet Coke button will be preserved for many generations to come.”
“He turned the Oval Office into the Liberace Museum gift shop,” Kimmel continued. “And now he wants to keep it that way forever. He doesn’t want anyone to change it – ever. Why do this now? Why do this right after the midterms?”
Kimmel then offered his theory on why Trump took these actions, saying, “Maybe he’s planning to leave sooner than we think?”
After the audience’s audible backlash, Kimmel delivered his two-word verdict on Trump’s latest move, calling his historic designation a “slip.”
“And let me tell you something, buddy,” Kimmel said. “On January 20, 2029, we’re going to take this shit down and throw it away faster than Melania goes back to New York.”

During Thursday’s announcement, Trump referenced an executive order placed on the Resolute Office by stating that the Oval Office “will not be allowed to be touched by anyone, destroyed, torn down by stupid people in order to build something in a slightly different form.”
During his second term, the 80-year-old president transformed the Oval Office, perhaps more profoundly than any other modern president. He filled the room with gold accents, including appliqués, cherubs and urns, and lined the walls with framed portraits. Outside the entrance, he added a sign in gold cursive letters reading “The Oval Office.”
Kimmel’s latest dig comes just days after he directly addressed the midterm results, saying during Tuesday night’s monologue: “What we know for sure is that the Democrats have officially taken the House. Thanks to President Trump. Blob Vila has flipped another House! The blue wave has made landfall, and now the red wedding begins.”
The Red Wedding refers to an infamous Game of Thrones scene where several heroes of the series were brutally massacred.
