Three elderly people were found dead in a bloody scene at a New Jersey home after a postal worker discovered a creepy note taped near the front door, authorities say.
The three bodies were tragically found Friday at a home in suburban Mount Holly, the Burlington County District Attorney’s Office announced in a Facebook post.
Officers rushed to the scene after a postal worker found a note on the front door saying 911 should be called, according to prosecutors.
The disturbing note, which was widely recorded, read “9-1-1 Inside” with gruesome drawings of two unhappy faces with “X’s” for eyes, the photos showed.
A neighbor told the Post that cops said the bodies were found amid a significant amount of blood.
“I understand that an incident of this nature is deeply concerning to our community. As Chief of Police, I want to assure you that the safety and security of our residents remains my highest priority,” Mount Holly Police Chief Clifford Spencer said in a statement posted on Facebook.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident,” he said.
The victims remain unidentified until next of kin are notified and the cause of death is still unknown – but autopsies are expected to be performed this weekend by the Burlington County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Neighbor David Babcock told NBC10 that two brothers and a sister, apparently aged in their 60s, lived in the home. However, it is not confirmed who the victims of the tragedy are.
“They were very nice, they didn’t bother anyone,” Babcock said.
A neighbor confirmed to the Post that she only saw one man enter or leave the house.
“As far as I know, I would have guessed he was the only one living there,” the resident anonymously told the Post.
Authorities said there is no threat or danger to the public in connection with this incident, which is currently under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Mount Holly Township Police Department.
The Mount Holly Township Police Department said it could not comment further.
