EXCLUSIVE: Passionate rivalry fans who have been impatiently awaiting season 2 of the Crave hockey series are in for a big surprise. The hugely popular romantic drama starring Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams has not one but two six-episode seasons in the works, sources tell Deadline. And that’s not all, there’s also a movie coming.
The two seasons are currently being filmed back-to-back, sources said. As they end in late November or early December, a Passionate rivalry the film will be shot in December, I heard. Described as a Christmas special or holiday-themed episode, it’s scheduled for a theatrical release next December, I’m told. According to sources, Storrie’s Ilya and Williams’ Shane are not among them. Details are fuzzy but I’ve heard it centers around the other couple from season 1, Scott (François Arnaud) and Kip (Robbie GK), with additional characters from the show also present.
It should be noted that Rachel Reid, the author of the best-selling Game changers series of books which Passionate rivalry is based on, wrote a short story, Merry Christmas, Scott and Kip!which represents the duo’s first Christmas together.
A representative for Canadian streamer Crave said there were no plans to confirm.
The speculation that Passionate rivalry The filming of two consecutive seasons has been brewing for a while, fueled by a leak of an August Cameo video from recurring guest star Dylan Walsh in which he said “I think we’re doing 12 (episodes) this time” before briefly writing in his profile that “a video went viral and got me in trouble.”
Some interpreted his comments as overblown Season 2. Passionate rivalry Creator Jacob Tierney debunked this theory last month, confirming to Andy Cohen that, like season 1, season 2 will consist of 6 episodes. Neither he nor Crave have acknowledged a Season 3 revival, but Tierney said in the same SiriusXM interview with Cohen that they would have finished filming by the end of the year without specifying what exactly the filming covers.
As for theatrical distribution, Passionate rivalrywhich streams on HBO Max in the United States and several other key territories, has tried its hand. The six-episode first season of the series is currently available for limited release at Regal Cinema, AMC and Cinemark theaters for twin episode screenings. As of Saturday morning, 880 theaters reported raising $420,000 on Friday in what appears to be a strong $1.3 million opening weekend.
Season 2 of Passionate rivalry It is confirmed to premiere in spring 2027, with a likely launch in April.
It’s been almost a year since the ice hockey romance premiered on November 28, taking pop culture by storm and transforming actors Storrie and Williams from complete unknowns to global superstars overnight.
After season 1 adapted from volume 2, Passionate rivalrywhich chronicles the budding romance between rival hockey players Shane Hollander (Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Storrie), while also incorporating elements from Volume 1, Game changer (with Scott and Kip), season 2 should continue the story of Shane and Ilya by approaching volume 6, The long gamewhile also presenting a new couple of Role modelHarris Drover and Troy Barrett, played by Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie respectively and possibly incorporating elements from other books in the series.
Emily Hampshire, Brendan Morgan, David Tomlinson and Lauren Chan are among the new cast members announced for season 2.
An interesting stunt here for Crave’s Heated Rivalry: Regal via their Regal Entertainment Distribution is releasing paired episodes from the first season of the hit Bell/HBO series this weekend.
