Police in the Philippines have reportedly apologized to Thomas Markle Jr. after he was named a person of interest in his father Thomas Markle Sr.’s child pornography case.
“The matter has been cleared up, the officers have truly apologized,” a source close to the matter told The Sun in a new report published on Saturday.
The outlet reported that Philippine police questioned his fiancée, Rose Ann Gabuya, and other members of their entourage who “resolved the issue.”
Page Six has reached out to the Philippine National Police for comment.
The report comes just a day after Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Sr., was arrested Friday in Florida on child pornography charges.
He was released on bail and prohibited from having any contact with minors. Thomas Markle Sr. was released to the dementia care facility where he lived.
The former cinematographer denied the allegations last month.
The Sun’s report follows a news conference Thursday, where Philippine Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that authorities had received information from a witness alleging that underage girls had been brought to a residence linked to the investigation.
“We have a witness (who says) that underage girls were brought to his house. We will investigate whether the son was involved in the crime,” Remulla said, according to News5 Philippines.
At the time, officials stressed that Thomas Jr. was not currently considered a suspect.
Thomas Sr. was arrested after FBI agents searched two storage units “registered to Markle in the Central District of California,” according to the criminal complaint filed Friday by Special Agent Laura Carter.
During searches conducted on October 30 and November 4, FBI agents found material suspected of containing child sexual abuse images.
The complaint, obtained by Page Six, alleges that Thomas Sr. appears in two images alongside an underage girl.
In late October, The Sun first reported that Thomas Sr., who previously lived in the Philippines, was under investigation by the Cebu City Police Office after material of child sexual abuse was allegedly found in his home and handed over by his son, Thomas Jr.
Daily Mail reporters also allegedly discovered child pornography in a storage unit near Thomas Sr.’s home in Mexico and subsequently called the FBI.
The Daily Mail discovered the alleged documents after gaining access to the unit, after Thomas Sr. had not paid his rent for more than two years.
Meghan previously responded to the allegations against her father in the Philippines in a statement to Page Six, calling the claims “troubling and worrying.”
“I hope we can now understand that, despite the distortions of some media publications over the years, any distance from my father and my choice not to allow him to have contact with our children was for one reason only: to protect them,” continued the mother of two. “I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families. »
A representative for Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, told Page Six on Friday that the couple had “no comment” on Thomas Sr.’s arrest by the FBI.
