This will be Andy Burnham’s first Remembrance Sunday as Prime Minister – we are keeping a close eye on its arrival.

A year ago it was Keir Starmer, who now joins a record number of former prime ministers who will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph.

As a reminder, these are Keir Starmer, Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss, Boris Johnson, Theresa May, David Cameron, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and John Major.

When Blair resigned in 2007, there were only two living ex-prime ministers, Major and Thatcher, suggesting how the role subsequently became a rapid revolving door.

Another political first this year will be that Reform UK leader Nigel Farage will lay a wreath alongside other party leaders, now that his party has the required six MPs.

Timeline chart titled 'The UK has had seven leaders in 10 years', showing UK prime ministers from 2016 to 2026: David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham. Cameron served in 2016, followed by May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak and Starmer, with Burnham touted as the current leader in 2026.
