Stephen Curry made NBA history when the Golden State Warriors defeated the Orlando Magic by a final score of 126-119 in overtime on Saturday night.
Curry recorded his 16th game with at least 40 points since age 35, passing LeBron James for the most 40-point performances among players over 35.
Curry finished with 41 points, six rebounds and six assists in 36 minutes on the floor against Orlando. He shot 13 of 19 from the field and 5 of 10 from behind the arc while hitting all 10 of his free throw attempts.
The Warriors started strong Saturday, leading 31-19 at the end of the first quarter before extending their advantage to 57-41 at halftime.
Orlando looked much sharper on both ends of the court in the third quarter, outscoring Golden State 37-20 in the period.
The two teams battled throughout the fourth quarter until Magic forward Jamal Cain took advantage of an offensive rebound to tie the score at 110 before the end of regulation time.
Orlando took a 118-117 lead into overtime, but Golden State finished the game on a 9-1 run to emerge victorious. Curry’s late heroics were crucial in the victory, scoring 19 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.
The Warriors improved to 7-3, winning their seventh straight game after starting their season 0-3.
Curry has already established himself as one of the greatest players in NBA history, but the 12-time All-Star hasn’t shown too many signs of slowing down at 38 years old.
He is averaging 31.3 points per game this season, ranking 3rd among all players.
Curry also records 4.6 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals each night while compiling shooting times of 49.7/44.7/98.5.
The Warriors will face the New Orleans Pelicans in their next game, kicking off Monday at 10 p.m. ET.
