Brand, visibly unimpressed, responds bluntly, “I watched the Oscars,” but Perry, ignoring him, tells the reporter, “I’m calling him out on his bullshit.” Moments later, when the reporter asks Perry who she was happy to see win, Brand raises his arm and taps a badge that says “Obey.” He shows it to Perry, who goes silent, and Brand then shares his perspective on the evening.

While he provides a non-answer, the interviewer attempts to engage Perry by asking, “Katy, how do you handle this guy?” and Perry, visibly embarrassed, responds, “He’s really hilarious.” » Brand then proceeds to drive him away.

The strangeness of Brand’s behavior in the video, as well as Perry’s reaction, was highlighted, with many calling it “disturbing.”

Another video shows Perry telling fans during a concert at the Blenheim Palace Festival in July 2025: “I hope my ex isn’t here. He should be in jail.”

Perry, who was married to Brand from October 2010 to December 2011, has not yet commented on the sentencing. However, this was reported by Mail Sunday that the “Firework” singer is in “active discussions” to tell the truth about her “dark marriage” in a documentary series and book.

A source said: “Katy has received several offers over the years to tell her story, but she wouldn’t consider anything until after the trial. She has a lot to say.

“Right now, she’s considering a Netflix-type series and an autobiography. She and her team have had active discussions. There’s a lot about that marriage that people don’t know. It was a very dark time in her life.”

The Independent has contacted Perry for comment.

Another clip, from Brand’s appearance on Channel 4 Big quiz of the year, was also re-shared on social media, and shows comedian and co-star Noel Fielding making rape jokes, which were later described by fellow panelist Lily Allen as “truly horrible”.

The episode, which aired in 2007, saw host Jimmy Carr welcome Rob Brydon, David Mitchell, Jonathan Ross, Fielding and Brand to the panel alongside singer Lily Allen, who was 21 at the time and the only woman on the show.

When Ross jokingly expressed concern about Allen sitting near Brand and Fielding, he said, “I’m going to insist, as sort of an uncle in Lily’s life, that she move there because that’s obviously the sex-free zone.” He then moved her closer to Brydon and Mitchell, adding: “And then Lily could come home with her tits still.”

Fielding then responds: “How dare you? We’re not rapists”, with Carr asking him why he wears a cape in the series if he’s not a rapist.

“It’s a Jack the Ripper cape. He wasn’t a rapist, he was just…” Fielding says, as Russell Brand adds: “A serial murderer. There’s no direct corollary between capes and rape. It’s just a rhyme. Leave him alone.”

Brand continues: “What if, horror of horrors, he hadn’t even committed rape. You could ruin his reputation. Did you commit rape?” Fielding replies, “Well, if that were the case, I’d leave the scene of the crime like that,” before pulling his cape up to his face like Dracula.

Allen spoke about that uncomfortable moment in an interview 16 years later. “I was on a chat show with Russell Brand, Noel Fielding and Jonathan Ross. And there are comments, I think, about me being raped or something,” she said. Grazia in 2023.

“And I laugh with that. Looking back, it’s really horrible. It makes me uncomfortable, but I don’t think I felt that way at the time, because that was the culture.”

Fielding was not accused of any wrongdoing and was in no way involved in Brand’s trial and conviction.

Following the court’s verdict on Thursday, Judge Bennathan told Brand the charges meant he faced “a prison sentence of some length” when he is sentenced on Monday.

He was refused bail and remanded in custody following the sentencing. He spent his first night in cell last night.

Brand is under investigation for two other alleged rapes, including that of a 16-year-old schoolgirl, and police have warned more victims could still come forward.
