Italy’s prime minister has accused pro-Russian hackers of leaking the country’s foreign minister’s data on the dark web.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Saturday that he had been intimidated and had his personal data leaked because of his support for Ukraine, but did not say who was behind it.

In a separate statement Saturday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni blamed the leaks on “pro-Russian hackers.”
Meloni expressed his “full solidarity” with the foreign minister over “what has been revealed regarding the activities of pro-Russian hackers and the dissemination of personal data concerning him on the dark web.”
“The sale of confidential information about institutional representatives is a source of serious concern and must be combatted with the utmost determination,” Meloni added.
Tajani said the leaks had been going on for days and exposed him to threats and intimidation. He added that his family was also targeted and the perpetrators are still seeking more information.
“Our position on Ukraine is the political reason why I was targeted,” the minister said. “Defending the freedom of a sovereign state, by taking a clear stand in favor of democracy and the independence of a nation, is dangerous for these criminal entities.”
Tajani said he would not be intimidated by the incident and pledged to continue his support for Italy’s allies.
“I will continue to work to defend my ministry and Italy, and I will continue to strengthen ties and cooperation with our allies so that we can protect ourselves together,” the minister said.
