Two cases of measles confirmed in St. Joseph County; listed exposure sites

Two cases of measles have been confirmed in residents of St. Joseph County.

The cases were confirmed Saturday by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency (BHSJ CHA), which works with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to investigate cases and notify anyone who may be exposed.

Two public exposure sites have been identified:

  • Thursday, November 5 between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Three Rivers Health – Emergency Department waiting area at 701 South Health Parkway in Three Rivers
  • Monday, November 2 between 1:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. at WellNow Urgent Care at 1069 South Centerville Road in Sturgis

Anyone who was present at these locations during the indicated hours and who is not vaccinated is asked to call (269) 273-2161, ext. 2161. 241 as soon as possible.

Unvaccinated people should monitor their symptoms for 21 days, and health officials recommend staying home and away from others.

Symptoms include:

  • High fever (may exceed 104 degrees F)
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red, watery eyes
  • Tiny white spots in the mouth
  • A red, raised rash that starts on the face and spreads to the body

Anyone with symptoms should stay home and call their doctor. Call ahead before seeing a doctor. BHSJ CHA offers MMR vaccines at its offices, they said in a statement.

Measles is very contagious and can be spread through the air. You can check your records here.
