A southern level hunter gets his money back with a crossbow

Logan Cecce, of Elmira, got up before dawn on a recent dreary morning and grabbed his crossbow. His family owned property in Horseheads that he wanted to hunt.

It was raining when he arrived. He sat back and waited…and waited. Around 2:30 p.m., he noticed movement in the undergrowth. Either way, it made almost no noise.

Cecce was locked up. He turned his head and was surprised to see a magnificent eight-spot buck looking right at him about 40 yards away. Cecce froze. He waited until the deer began to move away, then slowly raised his crossbow. He pulled the trigger but the arrow flew over the deer.

“I knew it was a clean miss, so I charged back to sit out the rest of the night,” Cecce said.

About an hour later, the same buck returned to the exact same spot, but this time Cecce was ready for him. He raised his crossbow as the deer slowly moved toward his range.

Cecce fired, a good shot this time. The deer fled through the undergrowth. Cecce waited about an hour, then started looking for him. The search did not last long. The male was just 50 yards from where Cecce shot him.

Well done, Logan! Now go get what you’ve earned.
