“Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos” ordered to series by Paramount+

A new show in the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” universe is on the way – covering an Avatar from generations past.

Paramount+ has ordered “Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos,” an animated series centered on the Water Tribe Avatar three generations before Avatar Aang. The announcement was made onstage during the New York Comic-Con panel for “Avatar: Seven Havens,” which premiered today on Paramount+.

The series, billed as “the next installment” of the franchise, will be produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Bryan Konietzko, co-creator of “Avatar” alongside Michael Dante DiMartino, will serve as showrunner.

The series’ logline reads: “A rebellious teenage Avatar goes against thousands of years of tradition by choosing to learn the four elements through globe-trotting adventures, staying one step ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic spirits – all while helping the world in his own way.”

Paramount+ also released first images from the series, viewable above and below.

Konietzko and DiMartino revealed the series Friday during a New York Comic-Con “Avatar” panel, coinciding with the premiere of “Avatar: Seven Havens,” their follow-up show to the latest Avatar. The panel was moderated by Janet Varney, who voiced Korra in “The Legend of Korra.”

The co-creators also revealed that “Avatar: Seven Havens” had been renewed for two additional seasons, volumes 3 and 4.

Development of the series was first reported by Knight Edge Media.
