Paige Spiranac must embrace total integrity after putting incident, Trump and Ditka’s new hire!

Welcome to Screencaps, “America’s best daily column,” as readers have called it. Screencaps, publishing seven days a week, is a mix of sports, pop culture and emails from sensible readers around the world. This column is not aimed at coastal elites. Give us a week to steal your heart. Our record is pretty good. Let’s have a little fun.

In case you haven’t noticed, American amateur golf has a real integrity problem.

For example, watch what happens when Paige Spiranac, the world’s #1 OutKick-nominated golf influencer, and her playing partner face what looks like a knock-in and move on to putt. Paige, who was playing in professional tournaments, pushes the putt only to be beaten by her partner who pulls his putt to the left.

Are they just doing this for YouTube to keep men watching? Maybe. Here’s the problem: We have an integrity problem in this country when it comes to golfers who claim to be better than they are. Golfers call on all four feet to provide reach.

Ten handicap players make 65 percent of putts from 3 to 6 feet, according to data from MyGolfSpy. In case you can’t visualize a 3-foot putt, we’re talking about the length of a guitar or a youth baseball bat.

But wait, you have a handicap of 5. A 3 to 6 footer is simple for your golf game. You are automatic. No, that’s not the case. The success rate at this distance for you is 67%.

When I tell guys I’m 18 on GHIN (you can search it) I can see the smirk. I can see them inside wondering why they are on the same path as me. And then I see these guys throwing tee shots, not counting that as a shot, throwing balls behind trees, blowing balls in the rough, calling good 3 1/2 feet and magically shooting 82s.

Did you hear about the Tony Romo incident where he signed a scorecard where he could have shaved? It is unclear whether this was intentional or not. That’s why I wrote “could have”.

America, we must do better and it starts today in classrooms across this country. I want to start hearing about your experiences with total integrity. I want to hear that you stopped shaving features like Paigeviews Spiranac. I want to know how you were emotionally freed from this false world you live in.

Is the weather in the Smoky Mountains, where everyone has moved during COVID-19, overrated?

I was a little shocked to see that northwest Ohio experiences nicer weather than south Florida and parts of the Tennessee-North Carolina border in the Smoky Mountains. Besides, it was 72-78 all week with very few clouds.

Now everything will change in two weeks when clouds begin to form off the Great Lakes and it will be cloudy until around May 14, 2027. Yes, there will be a few days in January where the weather will be crystal clear and below 10 with the wind chill.

I need you guys from the Smoky Mountains to tell me why shades of pink appear. Is the weather really overrated in Smoky Mountain towns?

How to transfer almost $500,000 when your payroll department insists on sending you a check for your $401,000 money

**** NONE OF THIS ADVICE SHOULD BE USED/TAKEN AS GOSPEL. DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT CHASEING EMAILERS, ME OR OUTKICK IF THINGS DON’T WORK!!!!! THIS IS NOT CNBC. THIS IS A SPORTS AND CULTURE COLUMN**** (I always get stressed when it comes to finances because there is always someone looking to sue people like me and my bosses.)

– Philly Ray in Minnesota checks in: As a financier adviselet Doug know in Texas that he could do a direct rollover into his traditional IRA. This way, he can invest in what he wants rather than being limited to the new company’s investment choices. If the check is made out to the new company’s retirement plan, no one will be able to cash it except the plan sponsor. However, I would follow the check all the way. (Disclaimer: This is not a solicitation and investments may lose value and are not guaranteed).

– David CPA says (don’t take his word as gospel!!!!): Hey, do NOT deposit this check into your personal account. This will count as income and you will have a huge tax bill. Too bad they can’t return it for you. Good luck.

– Frank, in Texas, is also going through this hell at the moment: As for Doug from Texas, agonizing over the USPS concern about his $401k rollover check being misplaced, I just experienced this myself, I too was perplexed about it (similar amount of $$ involved) – he just needs to make sure the check is made out to his new account, rather than to himself personally, that way if it is lost/stolen it can’t be cashed – they will issue a new check

Keep up the great work on America’s Favorite Column (TM)

On the life of Mike Ditka

– Phil in Florida remembers: Joe, I’m writing to kill a hangover from last night with water and electrolytes (that’s what plants need) and prepare to do it all again. You see, I’m from Chicago, a fan of every team except the Cubs, and I don’t care about the WNBA team. And football is not a sport. This loss last night against my Sox was hurtful as a fan.

Then, a few minutes ago, I read something that hurt more than my last breakup, Da Coach passed away. Mike Ditka has moved on to the big grill in the sky. May many Polish sausages be eaten today in his honor, may many Polish sausages be drunk in his memory and may several referees give the finger in his memory. I’ll refrain from saying F the Packers (see what I did there) and instead leave you with this. DAAAAAAAAA bears!

Random Emails

– KM says: Hey, how about we just have marching bands at halftime, instead of lame talking heads. When are the networks going to realize that they all suck.

THE CRAIG CARTON SHOW – UNFILTERED, WITHOUT EXCELLENCE AND UNMISSABLE. DOWNLOAD HIS DAILY PODCAST NOW!

– Daren from NE ATL wants to come this morning: This is a bit different from a delivery, but refers to language issues. I called a local IRS number yesterday, in Gainesville, Georgia, to ask a question. I was transferred four times, finally to the local representative. The first three are barely, if not all, English. Ah, it’s our federal government. Who does the recruiting?

– Greg says there is at least one Hooters doing well: It’s really a shame what’s happening to Hooters nationwide but the location in The Villages, Florida is kicking butt. Rich retirees throw money at girls. This should become their new economic model!
