9 dead in Pennsylvania shooting, Erie officials say

Nine people are dead after a shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, Friday evening, city authorities said.

The shooter is deceased and there is no ongoing threat to the public, city officials said. Authorities did not say whether the shooter was included in the death toll.

Investigators determined that all nine deaths occurred before officers arrived on scene, authorities said Saturday. Officers arrived within minutes of receiving a ShotSpotter alert and no further shots were fired after they arrived on scene, according to the city.

Gov. Josh Shapiro said he spoke with Erie Mayor Daria Devlin and offered her administration’s “full support.”

“My heart breaks for this family,” he wrote on X. “Lori and I are praying for their loved ones and the entire Erie community.”

Officers initially had limited information upon arrival, including “whether the individual remained inside or posed a continuing threat.”

Officials said they would provide additional details at a news conference Saturday at 4 p.m.

Erie is approximately 128 miles north of Pittsburgh.
