HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A man is in the hospital after a vehicle driven by an ICE agent struck him Saturday morning in northwest Harris County, deputies said.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. on Clay Road near Highway 6 as ICE agents were pursuing a suspect wanted on a warrant.
Officers said the suspect was driving a white pickup truck westbound in the eastbound lanes when he and his passenger jumped out of the pickup truck and ran away.
An ICE agent attempted to corner the passenger at the back of a building and struck him, HCSO said. Deputies said they believe the man had a broken leg but was stable and his injuries were not life-threatening.
Deputies said the injured man has only been identified as a 48-year-old and is currently in ICE custody at the hospital. According to the sheriff’s office, the passenger was in the country illegally.
The driver of the pickup truck fled during the chase and was not caught, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said ICE informed deputies they needed emergency services after the crash. Deputies said their investigation would be limited to the crash and referred all questions related to the incidents leading up to it to ICE.
ABC13 reached out to ICE for comment but did not receive a response.
