Keri Russell talks candidly about the early days of her relationship with her longtime partner.

During a recent appearance on the “Dear Chelsea” podcast, the 50-year-old actress opened up about what it was like to fall in love with her boyfriend, Matthew Rhys, while filming the early seasons of “The Americans.”

“We were like falling in love and staying up all night and like making love all the time and just wearing costumes, like, I wear crazy wigs and I like wear pearls,” she said on the podcast. “When have you ever worn pearls and like that, to trailers and everywhere. I mean, it was crazy. It was so fun and sneaky and sexy and so good.”

Although the two dated briefly before working together, they reconnected in 2012 to film the first season of “The Americans” and their relationship became public in April 2014 after first sparking dating rumors in late 2013.

Together, they share son Sam, whom they welcomed in May 2016. Russell is also mother to her two children – River and Willa – from her previous marriage to Shane Deary.

While the couple has been together for over a decade, Russell told podcast host Chelsea Handler that she saw no need to marry Rhys, noting, “I had a big party. I can dress up all the time.”

“Before, people had to be married to have a credit card. We can have credit cards now,” Russell said. “I don’t need my last name to disappear. I’m cool. If you want to be here, be here. If you don’t, that’s cool too.”

She added that since the two share a child, it means “forever” to her and that she finds marriage a bit “antiquated.”

Russell is currently promoting the fourth season of her hit Netflix series, “The Diplomat,” in which she plays Kate Wyler, the American ambassador to the United Kingdom who finds herself in the middle of conflicts between the two countries.

As for the character, the “Felicity” actress told People that it’s “fun to play someone who is so smart, so funny, so fierce” but who also “does stupid shit all the time.”

“I like her frankness, I like her authority. I like the way she always gets herself into hot water,” she said. “I mean, losing in drama as a character is good. Constantly losing and screwing up is great. But I also love that she can pull herself together and be presentable and put on a dress if she needs to.”

After Rhys recently neglected to thank Russell in his acceptance speeches at the Emmy Awards, where he won for his work on “Widow’s Bay” and “The Beast In Me,” Handler suggested that when Russell finally won for his role in “The Diplomat,” she would thank all of her ex-boyfriends and leave Rhys out.

“I said, ‘Take me off your plate. You don’t need to thank me. I know you love me,'” she revealed. There are so many people you have to thank. I don’t care if you want to thank the dog walker. You do what you want. It’s your minute. It’s your 45 seconds. So I just said, ‘Get me off your plate.’ And we kind of said, “We don’t need to thank each other. »
