THE Ambiance-coded horror show continues to get worse for Sonyas there is now a new Claude-coded version of the PCSX2 emulator, named PS5SX2, which can be installed on jailbroken PlayStation 5s and allows users to transfer their PlayStation 2 games to the console’s SSD for emulation. Unfortunate timing for Sony, given the Latest advances in PS5 jailbreak.
Of course, using a PS5 to emulate PS2 games isn’t technically new, so why is this title worth your time? Because the latest version of PS5SX2 allows you to emulate games using your PS2 discs. No more downloading a ROM from a sketchy website; Simply place your own PS2 disc into your PS5 disc tray and dump it straight from there.
This news comes directly from Swordpdf, the main coder of PS5SX2. As they detailed in an article on Xand in the PS5SX2 GitHub README file, PS5SX2 version 2.01 can indeed read and dump PS2 physical disks. As Swordpdf explains in the PS5SX2 version 2.01 update on GitHubonce you “put a PS2 disc in the drive”, the PS5SX2 “empties it if it’s not already empty and starts the game”.

However, there is a catch: due to a specific hardware limitation, it appears that a PS5 running PS5SX2 cannot be used with all PlayStation 2 discs and, by extension, all PlayStation 1 discs.
The PlayStation 5’s disc drive can play Blu-Rays and DVDs, but it cannot play CDs. This means that none of the blue-tinted PlayStation 2 discs (which are CDs, not DVDs) can be read by the PS5’s optical drive laser and therefore cannot be burned to the SSD or an external hard drive using the PS5SX2. Likewise, PS1 discs are CDs, so the same problem applies here.
And yes, before you ask, PS5SX2 is an AI-assisted project. No need to guess or investigate on this front, as Swordpdf is very upfront about it. Additionally, Claude is literally one of three contributors listed on PS5SX2. GitHub.
But Swordpdf hasn’t finished ruining Sony’s week yet, as they have already announced that a PS5SX3 emulator, which will allow PS3 games to be dumped onto the PS5 from a disc, is in the works for both. X and in their Discord server. Swordpdf also seems to think they can do the same thing for PS1 discs, but given that this shouldn’t be physically possible, I’m not sure how that’s going to happen.
