Rosalía performs Song En Pointe on ‘SNL,’ then goes singing in the rain

As for whether or not Rosalía would dance during her appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” that depends on how you look at it. The famous singer stood perfectly still during her first number, “Reliquia,” but appeared to be standing on pointe for the entire four-minute performance.

For her second “SNL” number, “Magnolias,” Rosalía didn’t take on quite as difficult a position, but the equally magnificent performance featured a different set of physical demands, as a studio rainstorm erupted mid-song, wetting her hair and face and making her white dress sticky and see-through.

On social media, viewers immediately marveled at Rosalía’s ability to deliver her usual powerful vocals during the first song while striking a pose — and some wondered if she was somehow supported by unseen means. Fans who saw her ballet prowess on display during her “Lux” world tour testified to her ability to pull off something so athletic without resorting to artificial measures. She was joined at the very end of “Reliquia” by a dozen dancers, lined up on either side of her as a strobe effect took over.

In her later performance of “Magnolias,” singing in the rain, the singer’s underwear became visible as her dress became more soaked. But viewers had already seen Rosalía in it a few minutes earlier, at the end of her only appearance in a comedy sketch. The sketch featured the singer appearing in a thought bubble and encouraged host Shane Gillis to leave his gravely ill mother’s bedside to go to a Jelly Roll concert at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
