The senator Thomas Tillis denounced the president on Sunday that of Donald Trump energy agreement with Russiawarning that the deal could put American lives at risk – and that the president could break the law.
Speaking to NBC’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press,” the North Carolina Republican warned that the president’s deal could violate a 2022 law passed by Congress banning Russian oil imports unless specific conditions are met, including a complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine.
“I think there are legitimate arguments to say that the president is not following the law,” Tillis said. “We have been very clear that Russia is the aggressor. Russia is the one that can end this war by withdrawing the territories it occupied.”
When contacted for comment, the White House referred POLITICO to a Truth Social Message from the President declaring that an “ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the war between Russia and Ukraine” was effective immediately. He provided no details of the ceasefire, nor any evidence that Russia accepted the deal. The message followed an ABC “This Week” interview with the Ukrainian president. Volodymyr ZelenskyWHO called Asset to support an “energy ceasefire”.
