“Artemis Fowl” animated series greenlit by Disney – NYCC

More than 25 years after presenting to the world Artemis Henauthor Eoin Colfer is teaming up with Disney for an animated series adaptation.

On Sunday at New York Comic-Con, Colfer announced during the “25 Years of Artemis Fowl” panel that the series had been greenlit for Disney Channel and Disney+, and that he would serve as executive producer.

Based on the book series launched in 2001, Artemis Fowl follows the titular 13-year-old genius as he discovers an underworld of armed and dangerous – and surprisingly high-tech – fairies, which gives him the idea to capture one and steal its magic to heal his dying mother and save his family.

“I am proud and delighted to be part of the great team that is putting the Artemis Hen animation on screen,” Colfer said. “Everyone is so talented and supportive that I’m sure the fairy world is in excellent hands.”

Ayo Davis, President of Disney Kids & Family, said: “For more than two decades, Eoin Colfer’s projects Artemis Hen the books have captivated readers around the world with unforgettable characters, imaginative world-building, and gripping adventures. Bringing this beloved franchise to life in the form of an animated series gives us the opportunity to introduce a new generation to the world of Artemis while honoring longtime fans who have cherished these stories for years.

Besides Colfer, EPs include Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson.
