The Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers meet in the NLCS for the second straight season, with first pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Sunday at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Last year’s NLCS ended with a sweep of the Dodgers, and Los Angeles beat the Toronto Blue Jays in seven games for its second consecutive World Series title. Milwaukee hopes to be more competitive this time around after going 4-3 against the Dodgers in the regular season.

The first game features an elite pitching matchup. Ace Tarik Skubal (12-7, 2.72 ERA), acquired from Detroit at the trade deadline, starts for the Dodgers, while Jacob Misiorowski (16-5, 1.80 ERA), who led the majors in ERA and strikeouts, opts for the Brewers.

It was pretty similar to what the Padres did against Misiorowski in the NLDS: striking out hitters, fouling potential pitches, making a guy accustomed to dominating work every out. They took him out of the game after four innings, but lost the first game.
The Dodgers’ game plan is clear: Don’t throw at Misiorowski until you have to, then dig in and protect home plate as best you can.

However, many of these throws exceeded 100 mph.

Hernández launches into a double play to end the inning. The Dodgers still have just two hits with runners in scoring position in the postseason, the second coming from Pages 10 minutes ago.
Misiorowski escapes a nasty jam, but he’s reached 47 pitches in two and doesn’t exactly look like a pitcher you want to bet on for the third time in the order.

Kyle Tucker draws a 10-pitch walk, and that plate appearance is more concerning than anything that’s happened so far tonight. Misiorowski took a 1-2 lead, then Tucker fouled four pitches while throwing out a free base.
It’s a bases loaded for the Dodgers with one out and Kiké Hernández up. Sirens blaring for the Brewers right now, for reasons beyond this game.

Andy Pages had one of the worst postseasons in MLB history last year. He was facing questions about being benched two games into these playoffs. Since then, he has been the Dodgers’ best hitter.
This time, he pushes a ground ball into the right field gap to score Ohtani from second and give the Dodgers the first run of the NLCS. Once again, Jacob Misiorowski doesn’t dominate as much as he did in the regular season.

Right on cue, Misiorowski gets his first strikeout of the game with Muncy sniffing a fastball well in the zone.

This isn’t much different than what happened in the first game against the Padres (that’s a bad sign if you’re Milwaukee).

And now Teoscar Hernández follows with a single. The Dodgers have a runner in scoring position with no outs, and Max Muncy is expected.

Shohei Ohtani hasn’t hit a home run since Aug. 18 due to lingering knee and biceps issues, but he’s still gaining respect. He scores a first base on four pitches in the second inning.

Wow, Kiké Hernández bounces a Brice Turang grounder to second but stays with the ball and comes out with a quick throw to first. Two points for Skubal at the end of the first.

Fox is launching a new scorebug in this series.
