Leave it to the incredibly incompetent Kristi Noem to perform a concert on herself.
During Kacey Musgraves’ Middle of Nowhere tour in Dallas, Texas, this weekend, the star hosted James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for state Senate, who shared photos from the show, including a photo of the singer taking a stunned selfie with him. “Thanks for having me last night, Kacey Musgraves!” Talarico wrote on social media after attending the show.
The timing did not sit well with Homeland Security Secretary Noem, who called on X to air her grievances. “I would replace (Ella Langley) with Kacey Musgraves any day,” Noem posted. “And if I pick Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico.” It appears that Langley, perhaps wanting nothing to do with serious pettiness, detached herself from Noem’s post.
Last March, President Donald Trump fired Noem after weeks of public scrutiny, personal scandals and bad press over her handling of the Department of Homeland Security. The ouster came days after Noem was reprimanded by lawmakers on Capitol Hill for a series of disastrous mistakes by her department, including the killing of two U.S. citizens by Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis and apparent attempts by DHS to stifle investigations into the shootings. Noem has also been criticized for spending extravagantly within the department while imposing restrictions on FEMA disaster relief funds.
Before becoming DHS secretary, Noem wrote in her memoir that she killed her 14-month-old dog, Cricket, by shooting the animal in a gravel pit.
Responding to Noem’s tweet on Monday, Musgraves referenced the horrific anecdote and responded, “I don’t think you have a dog in this fight, but if you did you would have put him down.”
Musgraves wrapped up his five-night tour of his home state on Sunday with shows in Houston, Dallas and Austin. The singer has numerous shows this month, including in Denver, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles.
Musgraves recently tapped Texas band Intocable for a new Spanish version of fan-favorite track “Uncertain, TX” – singing entirely in Spanish while harmonizing with singer Ricky Javier Muñoz. The song marked Musgraves’ first full-length original Spanish-language song.
“Having a song with the legends of Intocable is such a thrill for me,” Musgraves said in a statement. “As a Texan, I’m proud of the cultural melting pot that makes our state so great, and this collaboration is a really fun example of that. »
Along with Musgraves’ quiet support for Talarico, Texas music legend Willie Nelson offered his public support last week. “I have gotten to know James Talarico. He is a good man who will be a good Texas state senator. Please vote and vote for James Talarico,” Nelson said in a video.
