A 29-year-old reality TV star was shot and killed early Sunday morning in downtown Oakland.
Police were called to the 200 block of 14th Street in Oakland around 1:30 a.m. on a report of a shooting, the Oakland Police Department told SFGATE in a statement. When officers arrived, they found Richmond resident Mackayla Paige suffering from a gunshot wound. Paige was transported to the hospital where she later died from her injuries, OPD said.
A woman, also from Richmond, was arrested in connection with the shooting, OPD said. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name or details about what led to the shooting.
Paige, also known as “Kash”, has been featured in several reality television series on Now That’s TV, a subscription streaming network. She was a cast member on the network’s “RoomMHates” and “Young & Reckless” as well as the first season of “Real West Coast Baddies,” a show with dramatic feuds and physical altercations.
An Instagram post from Now That’s TV dedicated to Paige sparked thousands of comments from fans who mourned her death.
“Even though his time with us was far too short, his memory will live on,” the network said in the post. “Rest in peace, Kash. Always part of the Now That’s TV family.”
Nicky Clayton, Paige’s cousin, told KTVU-TV that the reality star wanted to start a business and get into the makeup industry. Paige was already modeling for several companies, Clayton told the outlet.
Just hours before the shooting was reported, Paige posted several videos to her Instagram Story that appeared to show her partying with friends at night.
Social media posts and fan videos stated that Paige was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with someone on the street when Paige’s friend accidentally shot her. Videos of the aftermath of the shooting, showing Paige on the ground, also circulated on social media and have since been deleted.
OPD has not confirmed the alleged altercation or the relationship between Paige and the woman arrested in connection with the shooting. The department’s homicide unit is investigating the shooting and anyone with information is asked to call OPD at 510-238-3821.
