The 49ers’ 32-29 win over the Seattle Seahawks was a wild ride, and the team’s PFF grades show the ups and downs of the battle.
Brock Purdy was under pressure on 16 of his 34 dropbacks, and Seattle blitzed the quarterback seven times. It was during these blitzes that Purdy completed only two of his six throws and threw his only interception of the game.
Purdy again found success in the short yardage game, completing all six of his passes behind the line of scrimmage and six of his eight attempts from zero to nine yards downfield. Intermediate throws from 10 to 19 yards down the field were a bit more difficult, with five successes on eight attempts, but Purdy found his target on two of his three deep throws of 20 yards or more.
Purdy significantly extended plays with his feet with an average throw time of 3.52 seconds, his longest of the season. The offensive line did its best in the trenches against a talented Seattle group, allowing eleven pressures.
11 total pressures
LG Connor Colby – one sack, three hits and two carries
RG Dominick Punished – two pressed
C Jake Brendel – two in a hurry
RT Colton McKivitz – in a hurry
Purdy spread the ball around as much as possible, targeting seven different players and connecting with all but one — tight end Luke Farrell. On the brighter side, Farrell received the highest run blocking rating on offense.
The offense had fierce success on the ground, with 67 of their 94 yards rushing after contact. Christian McCaffrey recorded 11 carries for 68 yards, including 39 after contact.
Here are other highlights from the 49ers’ Week 5 win in Seattle:
WR Mike Evans – 92.0
Evans received the highest grade on offense, catching seven of his nine targets for 113 yards and a touchdown. Four of the All-Pro’s catches were contested and six were for first downs or touchdowns.
Seattle cornerback Josh Jobe was tasked with covering the star receiver and allowed six catches on eight attempts, while safety Nick Emmanwori allowed a catch on his only attempt to cover Evans.
While the 49ers offense allowed nearly a dozen pressures, the defense did its part to keep Sam Darnold off balance.

The rookie received the highest rating of any interior defensive lineman in Sunday’s games.
CB Renardo Green – 92.3
Green receives the highest grade on defense, allowing just two completions on five targets for five yards, along with two interceptions and a pass breakup.
S Malik Mustapha – 71.4
The third-year safety made huge plays in the game, including five solo tackles and two stops while not allowing three targets to be completed and recording a pass breakup. This helped thwart Mustapha’s two missed tackles.
Very special special teams:
P Corliss Waitman – 69.3
All five of Waitman’s punts landed inside the 20 and allowed no return yards. Just before halftime, the punter’s biggest kick was downed at the 4-yard line, setting up Halton’s fumble recovery touchdown.
