Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella said Monday August 31 that twenty guerrillas were killed in Colombia in bombings ordered by his new government on areas controlled by insurgents.

These are the deadliest bombings since Abelardo de la Espriella came to power on August 7. The hard-right leader has promised to wage a merciless fight against criminal groups, which finance themselves through drug trafficking, extortion and illegal mining.
These are also the third bombings of the new government, with the highest toll since the Juan Manuel Santos era (2010-2018), a military source told AFP.

Four minors were killed in the first two waves, two aged 15 and two aged 16. It is not known whether minors were among the victims of the third.
“We are after you, Mordisco (…) I am going to make you pay for all the harm you have done to Colombia,” said Abelardo de la Espriella, who wants to strengthen his country’s cooperation with the United States and Israel in the fight against organized crime.
