The Fitbit Air finally benefits from another bracelet option that is neither fabric nor polyurethane. Instead, the Metal Mesh band could actually take the Fitbit Air up a notch.
The selection of bands for the Fitbit Air has been limited. The Elevated Modern band and Performance Loop options are good, but they lack a bit of flair. The Fitbit Air needed another band option to take advantage of the ease of swapping styles.
The band Metal Mesh fills this gap. It is available in polished silver and champagne gold to match your existing jewelry. The look allows the wearable to blend into an elevated outfit, although the Performance Loop band does a good job of matching most looks.
Google says the Metal Mesh band for the Fitbit Air will be priced at $69.99. You can also buy the Fitbit Air with the Metal Mesh bracelet And the Performance Loop band for $149.99 as a bundle, but it’s only available in gold. It’s $20 more than special editions, like the Steph Curry Band and the Pokémon Sleep Band, but it comes with two bands instead of just one option.

In the band’s announcement, Google detailed a few more feature additions to the Fitbit Air, regardless of the band’s choice.
Google announced Health Guardian features that analyze your overall health. For Google Health Premium users who set up blood pressure and insulin resistance trends in the app, a report will be available each month to guide lifestyle adjustments. This may make the AI Health Coach more usable for the average Fitbit user.
Google also notes that automatic activity tracking is getting an overhaul. According to the new post, Google says the improvements will result in “smarter, more accurate, and more reliable” tracking.
- More activities follow: We’ve increased the number of activities your Fitbit or Pixel Watch tracker can detect from 10 to over 100, including strength training, swimming, racquet sports, and team sports.
- Use more context: Powered by contextual reasoning, Google Health takes into account critical context (including your workout routines, historical data, manual edits, and, with permission, your location) to provide detections that are nearly 2x more accurate and reduce missed workouts by more than half. 7
- Automatically records workouts: Workouts that reach your minimum duration threshold (15 minutes by default) with a sustained high heart rate are automatically recorded and a summary sent to your mobile app, usually within 30 minutes.
- Learns your models: When you confirm or modify an activity, you enhance a feature that learns your unique patterns and uses them to refine its predictions.
These updates are expected “later this month.” This comes as the company recently announced a more expensive $179 tracker called Fitbit Edge. Unlike the Fitbit Air, this model has a screen incorporating Google’s Material You design language.
As for the new Metal Mesh bands, Google is offering them for pre-order on its website and at Target. It looks like the new bands should ship later this month.
