The Supreme Court agreed to decide whether a watchdog group seeking information on the president that of Donald Trump the so-called Department of Government Effectiveness is entitled to documents showing the control budget-cutting efforts have exerted on federal agencies.
The judges granted the Asset the administration’s request to review lower court rulings finding that Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington can force DOGE to turn over records highlighting its interactions with government agencies.
THE Asset The administration maintains that DOGE made no decisions regarding program cuts or layoffs of federal agency staff and simply offered recommendations to agency leaders. But critics alleged that DOGE staff were, at least in some cases, dictating the agency’s actions.
Shortly after Asset announced the creation of DOGE, CREW filed a broad request under the Freedom of Information Act requesting details about the project’s structure and its interaction with agencies. However, the administration claims that DOGE – housed within the Executive Office of the President – is strictly advisory in nature and therefore not subject to FOIA.
