After a surprise update in September, Nintendo today rolled out version 4.0.1 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

This update, as you may have already understood, is a lot less exciting. It basically fixes some issues with several fixes. If anything else of note regarding this latest update is discovered, we will provide an update.

For now, here’s the full rundown, courtesy of Nintendo’s official support page:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Version 4.0.1 (October 13, 2026)

General
  • Fixed an issue where the number of obstacles or item boxes increased during online play and wireless play on Nintendo Switch 2 compared to Nintendo Switch.
  • Fixed an issue where players were unable to select a registered user on the system when playing with two players for online play and wireless play.
  • Fixed an issue where some Star Bits were not displaying when driving on Wii Rainbow Road on Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would close unexpectedly when certain conditions were met.

If you haven’t grabbed the previous update (version 4.0.0) for this Switch title, it includes “improved, sharper visuals” for the Switch 2 screen. Added to this are improved loading times and the ability to play with up to eight players on a single system. Support for CameraPlay has also been added in this update.

In case you missed it, Nintendo also released a major update for the Switch 2 title Mario Kart World last month. It added classic courses in VS Race mode, two new Knockout Tour routes and more.
