Brady Tkachuk makes NHL history with hat trick on 3 assists from brother Matthew in Panthers win

The Tkachuk brothers made NHL history in a victory Tuesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Brady Tkachuk scored three straight goals, on which Matthew Tkachuk had three assists, in the Florida Panthers’ 7-3 victory.

He is the first player in NHL history to have his brother assist on every goal with a natural hat trick, according to NHL PR.

Brady is also the ninth player in NHL history to watch his brother score three goals on a hat trick, and the first since Daniel Sedin scored on three assists from Henrik Sedin in 2015, according to the NHL.

The Panthers were leading 1-0 in Columbus when Brady scored the third-fastest hat trick in franchise history in just over eight minutes of the second period.

His initial goal marked the first time the Tkachuk brothers combined for a total since playing for Team USA in the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.

Brady is the eighth Panthers player to complete a natural hat trick, and the first since Matthew in 2024.

The Tkachuk brothers both assisted on a Carter Verhaeghe goal later in the second period. Matthew set a franchise record for assists in a single period with the assist.

Matthew also assisted on a Sam Reinhart goal early in the third period. He (0-5-5) and Brady (3-1-4) finished the game as the first brothers and teammates since the Sedin twins in 2015 to combine for nine points in a single game.

Brady had recorded just one assist in his first six games with Matthew and the Panthers before his four-point outing Tuesday night.

“Of course I felt that pressure…I felt like I wasn’t doing my job and I wasn’t good enough, but I knew it was going to happen eventually,” Brady told ESPN after the Panthers’ victory.

Brady’s best night as a Panther came at a crucial time for a franchise that had lost four of its last five games while losing key players, including Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand, to injury.

The Panthers (3-2-2) hope to see more production from the Tkachuk brothers as Barkov and Marchand continue to recover from injuries that are expected to sideline each player for at least the next month.
