Trump also touts the security benefits of last month’s deal with Denmark and Greenland.

US President Donald Trump says “massive” oil, gas and mineral exploration will begin in Greenland.

In a post Wednesday on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the Arctic island, a self-governing Danish territory, holds some of the world’s largest reserves of “easily” extractable oil.

“The amount of oil readily available is far greater than almost…anywhere in the world,” he wrote, citing experts.

He did not give details of possible American involvement.

Last month, Trump reached a security agreement with the leaders of Denmark and Greenland that expands the role of the U.S. military on the island.

The deal paves the way for two new military bases and Trump’s planned “Golden Dome” missile defense system, while reaffirming Danish sovereignty and the Greenlanders’ right to self-determination.

The deal was intended to end a nearly two-year crisis over Trump’s refusal to rule out the possibility of the United States seizing Greenland by force.

In his social media post Wednesday, Trump also praised the security benefits the United States and Europe gained from last month’s deal, calling them “second to none.”

He said any air attack against the United States could not be carried out without passing through Greenland, arguing that Washington would then be able to neutralize any threat.

“Any future attack on the United States will have to pass through Greenland, where our defense will routinely shoot down drones, missiles or any other form of weapon that isn’t even designed yet,” Trump said.

“It gives us time, location and visibility like nowhere else in the world! »

There was no immediate comment on the US president’s message from the leaders of Greenland and Denmark.
