The former Gracious Home space on the corner of 67th and Broadway, which has sat vacant since the beloved home goods store closed in 2016, finally has a new occupant. And it’s not a store.
NYU Langone Health opened a 28,000 square foot imaging center at 1980 Broadway on Monday, October 12. The facility, called NYU Langone Radiology—Upper West Side, serves a wide range of medical needs, including breast, neurological, cardiovascular and cancer care, according to an announcement from NYU Langone.
“This new location advances our mission of bringing the world’s best imaging care to patients right in their own neighborhoods,” said Dr. Oren Cahlon, chief clinical officer of NYU Langone Health. “By bringing together cutting-edge technology with a team of leading radiologists under one roof on the Upper West Side, we can detect diseases earlier, plan treatments more accurately, and improve lives.” »
The center’s equipment includes an integrated PET/MR machine, which combines a PET scan and an MRI and is used to help identify dementia, neurodegenerative diseases and certain cancers. It also offers advanced cardiac CT scans that examine the heart and blood vessels without invasive procedures, as well as 3D mammography combined with artificial intelligence tools that support early detection of breast cancer.
According to the site’s website, the site also has two high-powered MRI machines with shorter tubes, designed to be more comfortable for patients, and can scan people with an MRI-compatible pacemaker. Bone density scans, standard CT scans and other imaging services are also available, and NYU Langone says some of what is offered there is difficult to access elsewhere.
All exams are read by radiologists who specialize in the affected area of the body, and most exams are read within 24 hours, the hospital system says.
“Our goal is to provide patients with the highest level of diagnostic expertise and technology,” said Dr. Michael P. Recht, chair of the Department of Radiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. “Earlier, more accurate diagnosis helps guide timely, personalized treatment decisions and ultimately improve patient outcomes.” »
