Trump says Taiwan will buy Alaska LNG. The project is still evolving.

President Donald Trump Taiwan’s government said Wednesday that it has committed to buying billions worth of liquefied natural gas from a proposed Alaska energy pipeline, despite financing for the project still being disputed.

In an article on Truth Social, Asset claimed that Taiwan had agreed to buy up to $80 billion of liquefied natural gas from the long-blocked pipeline in what it called the “largest offtake deal in history.” He also said the country agreed to invest $4.4 billion in equity in the project because it was “now a U.S. federal government project.”

“This is the BIGGEST project in Alaska’s history, and it’s only happening with me in the White House,” Asset wrote.

Asset announced last month that South Korea had committed $54 billion to the pipeline project as part of a broader investment deal Seoul reached with the White House last year in exchange for lower U.S. tariffs. Under the terms of this investment agreement, the United States and South Korea would get equal shares of the project until the original investment is returned, after which the United States would get 90 percent. This is probably what Asset was referring to by saying the pipeline would be a federal project.
