Last week, Walmart reportedly canceled Zelda Switch 2 pre-orders a day before launch after “overselling” the consoles.
In an update, the retailer is apparently handing out vouchers in response to the upheaval caused by these cancellations. As Polygon points out, some customers are now supposed to be compensated with “$519 gift cards.”
Here’s the email response customers are now receiving from Walmart (confirmed by deals website CheapAssGamer.com):
We know you’ve been looking forward to your Nintendo Switch 2 Legend of Zelda pre-order, and we sincerely apologize for canceling your pre-order. It was our mistake.
To show our appreciation to you as a Walmart customer and help you make up for the canceled order, we are sending you a $519.99 Walmart eGift Card. You will receive this gift card by email within 10 business days.
Once again, we are sorry for the error. Thank you for being a Walmart customer. We look forward to serving you again soon.
According to the same story, these customers also have the option to reorder the Zelda-themed Switch 2, and the gift card “essentially grants what looks like a free Switch 2.”
Based on some other Customer testimonials online, Walmart may also offer “either,” where the customer can either reorder the limited edition system or get a gift card for the cost of that unit.
There is also speculation that this offer from Walmart is “too good to be true” and could potentially be another mistake. However, several customers noted how this came from the “(email protected)” email address, so this seems promising.
