Alabama and SEC release statements on Alabama-Georgia football game weather

There are currently no plans to change Saturday’s Alabama-Georgia football game due to a potential hurricane, the University of Alabama said in a statement released Tuesday evening.

“Alabama athletes are closely monitoring the weather forecast ahead of Saturday’s football game against Georgia,” the release said. “At this time, there are no plans to make any changes to the contest. We will continue to observe conditions throughout the week and remain in communication with the Southeast Conference office, if necessary.”

The SEC released a similar statement earlier today: “As we do every week at this time, we are keeping an eye on the forecast and remaining in communication with schools whose games may be affected by the weather.”

A tropical depression formed east of Mexico on Tuesday and is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm and, possibly, a hurricane. The storm is expected to move inland, over Mississippi or Alabama, by the weekend, although its exact track and timing remain uncertain.

Alabama’s game against Georgia is scheduled to begin around 6:45 p.m. CT on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
